Day 2 - THE CALLEJON DE HUAYLAS VALLEY / THE LAGUNA DE LLANGANUCO LAKE

Full day tour. We leave at 09:00 AM for a 184 Km trip. We will be away for around 8 hours including the programmed visits.

The Callejón de Huaylas is one of the most spectacular sights in the Andes. It is an ample valley flanked by the impressive Cordillera Blanca White Mountain Range and the Cordillera Negra or Black Mountain Range. It has several good sized towns and many small villages full of traditions, legends and folklore. A visit to the Callejón de Huaylas is an unforgettable experience, it is the chance of a lifetime to get to know marvellous landscape and to enrich your own life by the unforgettable memories you will bring back from this trip. We will travel North from the City of Huaraz through the Valley through small towns and villages such as Jangas, Paltay, Marcará, Carhuaz, Ranrahirca, and then we will reach the enormous formerly mud covered Memorial of the former Town of Yungay that was buried by an enormous landslide that swept down from the Huascaran Peak on May 31 st, 1970, a consequence of an earthquake that struck the area. You will be able to see the enormous Statue of Christ on the old hill where thegraveyard used to be before the earthquake and where many people took shelter and survived the sea like mud that suddenly surrounded them engulfing what was left standing after the earthquake hit. Not far is also the famous hill called Pan de Azucar or Sugar Loaf Hill and at its bottom you can still see the tops of the still standing palm trees that survived the earthquake.

We will continue on towards the Laguna de Llanganuco, a lake of immense beauty at the foot of the Northern slope of the Huascaran Peak, mirroring its beauty in its turquoise clear ice cold water. A place surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Cordillera Blanca such as Chacraraju, Pisco and Huandoy. It is surrounded by forests of so called Quenual trees ( Polylepsis sp), considered to be the tree species that grows on the highest altitude on the planet, up to 4800 m.a.s.l. We will make a tour of the surroundings, appreciating the flora and the fauna of the Parque Nacional Huascarán National Park. Then we will go back down to and continue north through the Valley until we reach the sweet land of the Town of Caraz, land of exquisite sweets and beautiful tourist sites. We will end our tour visiting the Centro Artesanal Taricá Handicraft Centre before we return to our Hotel of Choice.

Day 3 - CHAVIN DE HUANTAR - ONE OF THE OLDEST CITIES IN THE AMERICAS

We will leave for the millenary Temple of Chavin de Huantar, one of the major corner stones of Peruvian pre Inca civilizations - today declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is located by the confluence of the Rivers Wachecsa and Mosna with luxurious stone wall buildings inset with the famous so called cabezas clavadas or nailed heads, which are fanged and zoomorphic but also almost human heads with a stone “nail” behind to set them into the wall, hence their name. In the midst of a cross shaped system of inside tunnels you will reach the centre and find a replica ( the original to be found in the Archaeological and Anthropological Museum in Lima) of the so called Lanz ón Stela Raymondi, so named after the famous Italian naturalist Antonio Raymondi 1824 – 1890, who travelled and wrote extensively about Peru and its natural and cultural treasures). It depicts Apart from the central truncated pyramid where the stela is located. We will also pass by the the Laguna de Querococha Lake, in the Quebrada de Yanayacu Ravine, famous for its flavourful trout of different types, ideal to go fishing. We will laso pass through the Cahuish Tunnel, going to the Callejón de Conchucos Valley, we will also visit the mining towns of Recuay , Ticapampa and Catac, the bifurcation point of the two valleys the Callejón de Huaylas end the Callejón de Conchucos.

Day 4 - CITY TOUR

American Breakfast in your Hotel.

You will do a CITY TOUR visiting the Museo Regional de Huaraz Regional Museum, the Temple of Solitude or Templo de la Soledad, the typical street Jose Olaya, a fishfarm for trouts, the Huaraz city outlook point, the Pamacayan archaeological monument, the Pastorcita Huaracina Boulevard and then we will return to the city. At an appropriate hour we will take you to the bus station.

On the way back we will have the opportunity to see the so called "Candelabro" or Chandelier, a giant figure in the style of the Nazca Lines made in the sand. Free time for lunch and rest before boarding our bus in the afternoon to the town of Nazca.

Day 2 - CHULLACHAQUI LODGE

Reception, attendance and at 09:00 A.M. approx transfer from the hotel to the port or wharf. We will go upstream the Amazon River 2 hours approximately. Arrival to the Chullachaqui Lodge located at 97 km from Iquitos. A lodge built with rustic materials of the zone. Rooms with private bath. Upon arrival a small walk through the area and accommodations. In the afternoon we will take a botanical walk learn some on medicinal plants, giant trees among others. Dinner. Night walk, observation of insects and amphibians in their natural habitat.

Overnight.

We will go out from the lodge very early in the morning for sighting of different species from birds and knowledge of ornithology in a canoe. You will be able to photograph them while they look for their food or fishing. Return to the lodge, and after breakfast the boat will transport us to the opposite end of the Amazon River where usually it is possible to observe the pink and gray River dolphins. Lunch at the Lodge. In the afternoon we will go back to the City of Iquitos and you will be taken to the airport in time to catch your outbound flight or to the Hotel of your Choice.

After breakfast we will visit a river bank village where will be able to observe the Amazon culture and their way of life, with manioc plantations, bananas, papaya and other typical products of the riverside communities agriculture. Back to the lodge for lunch and after an afternoon rest we will return to the City of Iquitos and transfer to the airport for our return flight. .

MODERN LIMA

We will continue on to the modern residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro. We will appreciate the Financial Centre, the Lima Golf Club, the Parque Olivar Park, the Huaca Pucllana, a pre Inca ceremonial temple with its pyramid, which has survived the urban expansion of Lima. We will make a stopover at the Larcomar shopping and entertainment mall, located in the so called Malecón de Miraflores, from whence we can appreciate a view of the Pacific Ocean.

COLONIAL LIMA

Continuing our tour, we will visit the Historical Centre of Lima, which was declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991, where the centre of the Spanish Colonial power settled in the XVIIth Century and where the first buildings were constructed. We will visit the Plaza San Martin Square, the old balconies and mansions, the Plaza de Armas Main Square with its most important buildings such as the Palacio de Gobierno Presidential Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, the Archbishop’s Palace and the Municipality Town Hall, the old train Station of Desamparados, amongst others.

THE SAN FRANCISCO CONVENT AND CATACOMBS

We will enter one of the most important convents of the XVIIth Century.
We will visit it old Library, the Choir, the Main Cloister and the underground
burial crypts known as the Catacumbas. At the end of the tour you can
choose to stay in the Indian Market, in the Larcomar mall or return to your hotel.

DAY 1 : AREQUIPA / TORO MUERTO / COTAHUASI

06:00 a.m. we will initiate our trip, taking the Pan-American Highway going through the Towns of Vitor and Siguas, and then we will take the detour that goes to the Valley of Majes, on the way we will stop to see the petro glyphs of Toro Muerto, where there are 5000 cracked blocks of volcanic rock, product of the eruptions of the Volcano Coropuna) where zoomorphic, phytomorphic, anthropomorphic, geometric, etc stone carvings are observed, with an antiquity of 700 years, (Wari Cultural horizon). We will visit the different towns of the Valley of Majes like Corire, Aplao, etc, with its rice paddies and vineyards from where comes the Pisco and wine of Majes; as we advance we will go upwards in altitude until arriving at the Town of Chuquibamba (where the paved road ends) and where we will stop to eat our box lunch. We will continue the trip by the slopes of the impressive Coropuna Volcano, the highest volcano of Peru ( 6425 m.a.s.l.), being able to also appraised the Solimana volcano and the Sara Sara. In the heights we can be observe the typical flora and fauna of the zone (vicunas, guanacos, vizcachas, foxes, deer, white tail deer, condors, eagles, etc). We will arrive at the Town of Cotahuasi in the afternoon.

DAY 2 : COTAHUASI / TOMEPAMPA – THE BOSQUE DE PIEDRAS DE HUITO PETRIFIED FOREST

Breakfast
After breakfast, we will go on to went to the Town of Tomepampa that is located at a height of 2700 m.a.s.l.; it is located about an hour from the Town of Cotahuasi, Tomepampa is a colourful town surrounded by cultivated terraces that form a beautiful landscape; thence we will initiate a trek of approximately 2 hours until arriving at the Petrified Forest of Huito; thence also we will enjoy a beautiful view of the Valley, we will continue trekking for approximately 40 minutes until we reach the Thermal Hot Spring Baths of Ccosla where we will make our camp. (Optionally we can spend the night in a basic lodging in the Town of Tomepampa).
Dinner.

DAY 3 : SIPIA – BAÑOS DE LUICHO

Breakfast We will initiate the trek of approximately 1 hour, towards the depths of the Canyon, crossing suspension bridges and narrow trails close by the banks of the river until arriving at the waterfalls of Sipia, with a height of approximately 150 Mts. After remaining a suitable time we will initiate the return and transfer to the Town of Pampamarca (approximately 03 hours by car from Sipia to Pampamarca),
Lunch
Then we will visit the Town of Alca, from which we will go to the Thermal Hot Spring Baths of Luicho, after which we will return to Cotahuasi. Dinner.

DAY 4 : COTAHUASI / AREQUIPA

We will continue on to see more examples of this visiting several Cusco streets and then we will leave the City proper and go uphill to see the impressive Sacsayhuaman, a combination of Temple and Fortress. Several Incas worked on the defence of Cusco against their main rival at the beginning of their Empire building. Then we will continue onwards to the surrounding country side to the sacred places of Qenqo, Puka Pukará and Tambomachay.

ITINERARY:

BARRANCO + CHORRILLOS

We will start our tour in the traditional district of Barranco. During our tour we will be able to appreciate the Parque Central or Central Park, the Bajada de los Baños or The slope to the Baths, the old library, the “ranchos” or Colonial Mansions, the traditional Puente de los Suspiros or Bridge of Sighs and its famous boulevard, which is the most bohemian of all night places in Lima. Carrying on with our tour, we will visit the district of Chorrillos, formerly the most famous beach resort of old Lima, which today contains the only Nature Reserve within the City, the so called Pantanos de Villa or Villa Wetlands with its varied birdlife , which we will be able to observe.

PACHACAMAC

Continuing with our tour we will take Carretera Panamericana Sur Pan-American Highway South, to arrive in Pachacamac, the most important Ceremonial Centre of the Peruvian Coast in pre Colonial times. The people came here from all over to make offerings to their God “Pachacamac “. Here we will be able to appreciate its varied buildings made of adobe mud bricks from different epochs. The most ancient buildings date back to the first centuries AC. In spite of the fact that Pachacamac through the years was occupied by different cultures such as the so called Cultura Lima, Cultura Wari, the Cultura Ichma and even the inca Empire in the XVth Century, it always managed to conserve its great prestige as religious centre. Among its principal buildings we can mention the so called Templo de Adobitos (I AC), el Templo Viejo de Pachacamac (I AC), el Templo Nuevo o Pintado (VIII AC), las Pirámides con rampa ( XIII AC), el Templo del Sol (XV AC), among other important buildings.

MODERN LIMA

We will continue on to the modern residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro. We will appreciate the Financial Centre, the Lima Golf Club, the Parque Olivar Park, the Huaca Pucllana, a pre Inca ceremonial temple with its pyramid, which has survived the urban expansion of Lima. We will make a stopover at the

Larcomar shopping and entertainment mall, located in the so called Malecón de Miraflores, from whence we can appreciate a view of the Pacific Ocean.

COLONIAL LIMA

Continuing our tour, we will visit the Historical Centre of Lima, which was declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991, where the centre of the Spanish Colonial power settled in the XVIIth Century and where the first buildings were constructed. We will visit the Plaza San Martin Square, the old balconies and mansions, the Plaza de Armas Main Square with its most important buildings such as the Palacio de Gobierno Presidential Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, the Archbishop’s Palace and the Municipality Town Hall, the old train Station of Desamparados, amongst others.

THE SAN FRANCISCO CONVENT AND CATACOMBS

We will enter one of the most important convents of the XVIIth Century.

You will be picked up at your hotel to go to the Valle del Colca Valley (located at 180 km ), passing through Yura, bordering the Snowy Peak of Chachani, and then onto the Reserva Nacional de Aguada Blanca National Reserve (Pampa Cañahuas), where we will be able to appreciate the natural habitat of the vicuñas .

13:00 Arrival to the Town of Chivay. Time for Lunch.

We will also visit the Villages of Pinchollo, Maca and Yanque. Back to Chivay with time off for Lunch.

DAY 07: Arequipa / Puno

DAY 08: Puno - Lake Titicaca - Isla Taguile Island – Isla Amantani Island

Breakfast in your Hotel..
Transfer from the Hotel to the Lake Titicaca where we will board a motorboat that will take us to visit the Floating Islands of the Uros, which are reached after approximately 30 min. After a brief visit of approximately 40 minutes, we will continue our trip to the Isla Taquile Island where we will make another short stopover before going on to the Isla Amantani Island where we will spend the night with the local inhabitants. The locals here, as in Taquile, also make their living mainly from agriculture, handicrafts and fishing. They continue to live in accordance with their old Customs and Traditions with its living folklore, religious rituals, following the Inca rites of marriage (sirvinacuy), payments to the Earth Mother or the so called Pachamama in the Quechua Inca language.
Typical Lunch.

In the afternoon we will find the accommodations for the overnight in family homes. The Island Amantaní has no hotels and thus services are very basic.
Visit to the pre Inca archaeological and ceremonial sites will start off with a visit to the PACHATA and PACHAMAMA, located on the hill tops.

DAY 09: Isla Amantani Island – Lake Titicaca - Puno

We will enjoy a Typical Local Breakfast with our hosts.
At an appropriate hour we will leave Amantani to the City of Puno.

Day 01: Lima – Nazca (29 JUN)

You will be picked up and taken to the Bus station to board the 7 AM bus to Nazca. Visit to the Cemetery of Chauchilla. The Necropolis of Chauchilla is one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in the area and is located at 27 kms ( 17.4 miles) to the south east of Nazca. Here you will be able to see the mummies in their tombs. Then we will return to the Town of Nazca to observe the artisan gold extraction workshops and the shops selling replicas of Nazca pottery.

Day 02: Nazca (30 JUN)

Breakfast in the Hotel.
Transfer to the Town airport to board a small aircraft to fly over the mysterious Nazca Lines to observe the gigantic geometrical figures and animals in the sand. You will be able to see the monkey, the hummingbird and the spider carved into the sand on the Peruvian Pacific Ocean coast. Bus back to Lima
PM Bus Cruz del Sur from Nazca to the City of Arequipa.


Day 03: AREQUIPA (01 JUL)

Reception at the bus station and transfer to the Hotel of your Choice. Rest of the morning free to rest and get used to tha altitude of 2300 m.a.s.l.

Day 06: AREQUIPA- CUSCO (04 JUL)

In the morning we will transfer to the Airport to board the plane to Cusco.
Reception at the “Velasco Astete” Airport and transfer to the hotel of your choice, where you will be served a hot coca leaf tea, which will help you to lessen the effects of the so called ¨Soroche¨ or altitude sickness. Rest of the morning free to acclimatise (3,300 metres above sea level- m.a.s.l.)

SHARED SERVICES TOUR
At 13:30 we will start the tour visiting the Temple of Koricancha or the Sun Temple and then we will go on seeing the mostly harmonious mix of Colonial architecture on top of Inca megalith foundations. We will continue on to see more examples of this visiting several Cusco streets and then we will leave the City proper and go uphill to see the impressive Sacsayhuaman, a combination of Temple and Fortress. Several Incas worked on the defence of Cusco against their main rival at the beginning of their Empire buildingThen we will continue onwards to the surrounding country side to the sacred places of Qenqo, Puka Pukará and Tambomachay.

Day 08: TOUR TO MACHU PICCHU (06 JUL)

Day 09: CUZCO / PUERTO MALDONADO - TAMBOPATA (07 JUL)

In the morning we will transfer to the Airport to board the plane to P uerto Maldonado. Reception at the airport and transfer to PS’s office. From where we will continue in our bus to the dock  located in the native  community “Infierno” from where we will board our canoe and start a one and a half hour journey  to the Explorer`s Inn lodge. During the trip we will have lunch on board (Box Lunch) and will also have the opportunity to see caimans, turtles, capybaras, etc.  At arrival we will be received with a welcome drink.  After resting a little while we will do a short night hike where we will be able to see some nocturnal animals of the rainforest. . Back at the lodge we will have dinner with our experienced guide and some of the RNs who will be available to answer any of our questions or brief us about the Amazon rainforest and the Tambopata National Reserve.
 

Day 10: EXPLORER` S INN -TAMBOPATA (08 JUL)

To see the giant otters we will have to get  up very early  and walk with our guide approx. 5 ½ kmts.  to Cocococha oxbow lake.  On the way we will have the opportunity to observe plants, exotic insects, colorful butterflies, birds, monkeys and, with a bit of luck, perhaps even see some of the large mammals. After arriving to the lake we will hide in a strategic hiding place and will wait the otters to appear to be observed. While waiting we will take the chance to have a refreshment. Afterwards canoes will be available for us to go for a short ride around the lake watching the wildlife on the shoreline. Back in the lodge we will probably have a late lunch and also have the afternoon free for relaxing or doing independent activities for those who wish to do them. Before the sun sets we will do with our guide a short afternoon walk to the Sunset Point and watch the beautiful Amazon rainforest sunset.  After the sun sets we will board the canoes once again to look for and watch caimans with torches.
 

Day 11:TAMBOPATA – PUERTO MALDONADO/ LIMA (09 JUL)

We will be woken up very early to have breakfast and board the canoe to return to Puerto Maldonado. On the way we will watch the unforgettable jungle dawn on the Tambopata River. Once in Puerto Maldonado we will be transferred to the airport to take our return flight.
